Collection: Gross Motor Trails
Gross motor skills are the bigger movements that use the large muscles in the arms, legs, torso, and feet.Without adequate gross motor strength, coordination, and control, it becomes very difficult to master fine motor skills, such as buttoning a shirt, cutting with scissors, and taking off shoes.
Motor skills usually develop together since many activities depend on the coordination of gross and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills development starts when a baby is able to raise their head while lying on their stomach and each milestone builds upon each other.
Understanding your child’s gross motor development is important in order to choose appropriate learning activities and toys that stimulate your child, but doesn’t challenge him or her beyond current abilities.
